Operating Model

Overview

The Operating Model tab is where you can create and manage business units, sub-business units, and departments. Examples of business units can be Operations, Back Office, Loans – anything that your organization uses to categorize where work is being done.

Each unit can be given a unique name and description. Business units are used as swimlanes in the Initiative Roadmap view, where swimlanes help to group and order initiatives for better tracking.

For instance, when an initiative is added to a particular swimlane in the roadmap, it is associated with that business unit. Where a business unit might be Operations, this indicates that the initiative is being delivered for the Operations unit in your organization. Filtering on the Operations unit on the Initiative Roadamp will allow you to see all initiatives associated with Operations.

Creating an Operating Model Unit

Navigate to the Configuration page via the main sidebar and select the Operating Model tab.

The page is divided into two sections: Business Units and Sub Business Units.

At the top right of each section, there is an option to add an operating model item:

  1. Add business unit

  2. Add sub business unit

  3. Add department

Each section is a table display which contains three columns: Name, Description, and a toggle for enabling and disabling the specific operating model item within the row.

Managing Operating Model Units

  • Enable/Disable: In the Operating Model tab, find the operating model unit you want to enable or disable. Toggling on the respective switch will allow you to enable to disable the operating model unit.

  • Rename: To rename an operating model item, click the name of the business unit, sub business unit, or department within the table. It will become an editable field upon click.
